NPP Ashanti: One in Critical condition as MCE young men shoot shots during conflict


Strain is mounting at Asokore Mampong Constituency in the Ashanti following a conflict between supporters of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Alidu Seidu and previous Director of Political Affairs at the Presidency, Manaf Ibrahim at Aboabo No 2.

Shots were discharged leaving one individual in basic condition after the conflict.

An individual from Manaf Ibrahim group Mohammed Muntala who portrayed the episode to Pure FM’s Osei Kwadwo clarified that the MCE for Asokore Mampong supposedly requested crooks to disturb Manaf Ibrahim’s people group commitment program around 7pm on Thursday, August 27, 2020.

“Manaf Ibrahim is setting out on network commitment to address the individuals on various issues. We began the declaration a week ago about network commitment at Aboabo No 2 and the setting was reported. Just today we heard that Hon Alidu Seidu group will likewise have a program at a similar spot of Manaf Ibrahim,” he said.

“When Manaf Ibrahim’s people group commitment was continuous, Hon Alidu Seidu group came there to upset the network commitment. Tempers were high and it brought the conflict between the two groups”.


There has been an animosity between the two individuals from the administering NPP which was heightened when Manaf Ibrahim tied down directive from the High Court in Kumasi to limit the gathering from proceeding with its Extraordinary Delegates Conference with Alidu Seidu going unopposed a year ago.

The Vetting Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had precluded Manaf Ibrahim, leaving Alidu Seidu, who is likewise the Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive as the sole competitor for the Asawasi space.

The gathering anyway supported Alidu Seidu through mainstream approval in spite of the court order.

Alidu Seidu was the NPP’s contender for Asawasi in the 2016 parliamentary political decision where he lost to the National Democratic Congress’ up-and-comer, Alhaji Mubarak Muntaka who has been the Member of Parliament for the region since 2005.
